Environmental health is a branch of public health that deals with all aspects of the natural and built surroundings that may have a say on human health. However, it is not restricted to organization, management, education, group action, consultation, and emergency response with the aim of maintaining the surroundings health and promotion and protection of the overall public health. This includes the surroundings inside the subsequent areas: food protection; housing; institutional environmental health; land use; noise control; recreational swimming areas and waters; nonparticulate radiation control; solid, liquid, and unsafe materials management; underground tank control; onsite septic systems; vector control; liquid quality; water sanitation; emergency preparedness; and milk and farm sanitation. The environmental community had its modern roots inside the sanitary and public health movement of the United Kingdom.
