|If acute inflammation condition is not resolved it leads to the condition of chronic inflammation. Some of the features of acute inflammation also lead to chronic inflammation such as increase in blood flow and increase in capillary permeability. Accumulations of the white blood cells are also observed. In an infected tissue neutrophils are the ones which are recruited first by the body but soon they are replaced by the macrophages and the lymphocytes. Thus these are the primary cells in case of chronic inflammation. The functions of macrophages are to phagocytize the pathogens at the site of inflammation.
