If acute inflammation condition is not resolved it leads to the condition of chronic inflammation. Some of the features of acute inflammation also lead to chronic inflammation such as increase in blood flow and increase in capillary permeability. Accumulations of the white blood cells are also observed. In an infected tissue neutrophils are the ones which are recruited first by the body but soon they are replaced by the macrophages and the lymphocytes. Thus these are the primary cells in case of chronic inflammation. The functions of macrophages are to phagocytize the pathogens at the site of inflammation.
Peer review refers to the work done during the screening of submitted manuscripts and funding applications. This process encourages authors to meet the accepted standards of their discipline and reduces the dissemination of irrelevant findings, unwarranted claims, unacceptable interpretations, and personal views. Publications that have not undergone peer review are likely to be regarded with suspicion by academic scholars and professionals
