Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most commonly reported microvascular complication of diabetes, affecting up to 20%ââ¬â 40% of type 2 diabetic (T2DM) patients. DPN is a heterogeneous disease which results from the direct damage of peripheral nerve components and of the associated vasa nervorum. Several polymorphisms have been reported in eNOS promoter, exon and intron regions. The most studied variants are the single nucleotide polymorphism. SNPs in the eNOS gene selected for the present study are recorded in the public dbSNP database. The official gene symbol is NOS3, approved name is nitric oxide synthase 3 (endothelial cell) and location is 7q36. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood using phenolââ¬â chloroform method.
