Neuromuscular electrical stimulation is currently being used for treatment in rehabilitation situations. Studies indicate that neuromuscular electrical stimulation increases muscle strength in weakened muscles; however few studies have examined the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation and muscle strength on healthy muscles or compared combinations of NMES and exercise. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation training was most effective in increasing muscle strength of the vastus medialis muscle in healthy participants after four weeks. The general consensus is that NMES is used to aid individuals in therapeutic environments, specifically in patients who are already injured. However, some researchers have found NMES increased strength in healthy muscles combined with exercise, and others found no change in muscle strength.
The open access journals are peer reviewed scholarly journals of International Journal of Neurorehabilitation. The top open access journals are freely available on the public internet domain, allowing any end users to read, download, copy, distribute, prink, search or link to the full texts of the articles. These provide high quality, meticulously reviewed and rapid publication, to cater the insistent need of scientific community. These journals are indexed with all their citations noted. The top open access journals are indexed in SCOPUS, COPERNICUS, CAS, EBSCO and ISI.
