Hamadryas baboon is a species of baboon from the old world monkey family. They originate from Arabian peninsula. These regions provide habitats with the advantage for this species of fewer natural predators than central or southern Africa where they reside. It is regarded as sacred animal to ancient Egyptians and hence known as sacred baboon. Baboons walk quadrupedally on the ground and climb up into rocky outcroppings to sleep at night. The sizes of baboons weigh around 21.5 kgs and females around 9.4 kg. males have mantle of hair surrounding their head ,neck and shoulders and cheeks forming whiskers. females are olive brown in colour. They are omnivorous in nature and they eat grass. Roots, shoots, fruits, leaves of desert plants. Food sources for these baboons are widely dispersed.
