Mitochondrial toxicity (MT) refers to the condition of decreased number of mitochondria in a cell of HIV infected person or related to other diseases who are taking the medication to inhibit reverse transcriptase as they inhibit pol gamma as both are very similar in nature. The most common sign of MT is myopathy (muscle weakness). It is the common side effect seen with the reverse transcriptase enzyme drugs.
