Lymphadenitis is an acute and chronic inflammatory process of lymph nodes that occur as a result of variety of pathogenic agents. Microorganisms infect the lymph nodes by travelling through the lymphatic flow. Chronic cervical lymphadenitis is caused by a nontuberculosis bacteria such as Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare and Mycobacterium scrofulaceum. As a part of diagnosis of this condition, the lymph nodes are sent for histopathological examination. Tuberculosis lymphadentitis is an extarpulmonary infection that is rarely seen in adults as children are more prone to this disease.
