In terms of action of oleocanthal a phenolic compound which is exclusively present in extra-virgin olive oil, It clears proteins by up regulation of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and LDL lipoprotein receptor related protein-1 (LRP1), major beta-amyloid transport proteins, at the blood-brain barrier and keeps the neural system safe from Alzheimers disease. More studies have to be made to have a clear multiple effects of oleocanthal. This mechanism has been clearly studied in the brains (invivo) and cultured brain cells (in vitro) of laboratory mice.
