Osteomyelitis

Osteomyelitis is a bone infection. It is caused due to microorganisms that infect the bone and the microorganisms can spread to the bone through the blood stream or infection from the nearby tissue. It a rare condition but it can become serious because it can spread to other parts of the body via bloodstream. In children osteomyelitis generally infect longer bones of the legs and upper arm. The infection can also occur because of some bone surgery in which the metal rods are introduced in the bones. The persons with weak immune system are at higher risk of developing osteomyelitis because the microorganisms can easily gain entry in the blood stream and infect the bones. The symptoms of osteomyelitis include fever, pain, rashes or redness and swelling in the area of infection. Various diagnostic methods are there for the diagnosis of osteomyelitis like bone scan, bone x-ray and MRI of the bone. There are various treatments for the osteomyelitis like antibiotics that kill the infection causing microorganism or if the infection is severe then the dead bone is removed so that it will not infect the surrounding tissues. Peer review refers to the work done during the screening of submitted manuscripts and funding applications. This process encourages authors to meet the accepted standards of their discipline and reduces the dissemination of irrelevant findings, unwarranted claims, unacceptable interpretations, and personal views. Publications that have not undergone peer review are likely to be regarded with suspicion by academic scholars and professionals.
