Shwachman Diamond Syndrome

Shwachman Diamond syndrome (SDS) is the most common inherited disease of pancreatic failure in childhood. It is much common than cystic fibrosis and accounts for 5% of inherited causes of pancreatic disease. This disease also affects other organs including bone marrow, skeleton and liver. The gene responsible for SDS has not been identified yet unlike CS. But the recent research shows that the SDS gene is also located on chromosome 7.
