Abstract

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is one of the important requirements in modern world. It has significant advantages as compare to infrastructure based network. Due to large necessities, its performance is always taken into consideration while implementing it in real scenario. Lifetime of MANET is one of the important parameters which is responsiblefor the performance. Since, MANET is mainly operated on battery power so lifetime should be enhanced. Every nodes in MANET must take active participation. Dynamic Source Routing(DSR) protocol is largely utilized in MANET for routing purposes and it is beneficial in employing in MANET. In this paper, there are two enhancements proposed in DSR protocol to increase the lifetime of MANET. It is simulated in ns2 and the results are found useful. The algorithm of DSR protocol is modified on the basis of initial energies of nodes. Both enhancements are done in DSR to save the energy of nodes so that they can function efficiently in low power as well. There is remarkable improvement in the performance of DSR and ultimately the lifetime of MANET increases.
