"The phenotype of the transformants was normal when compared with wild-type fungus. In case of the glass bead transformation, the transgenes were directly introduced into the genome of the fungus without the need of Agrobacterium. Brief vortexing of glass beads might have created the emporary pores in the fungal cell wall which facilitate the uptake of the DNA molecules and the pores created must have repaired after some time. The addition of PEG further improved the DNA uptake efficiency. These results are in line with the previous report in yeast.
