"Effect of various carbon sources on the growth and production of chitinase by the YT 5 and YT 0 were studied in 25 ml minimal medium containing the supplements as stated above and 2% glucose or 2% sucrose or 0.2% colloidal chitin for 7 days by continuous shaking of 180 rpm at 30ðC. From each culture, the samples were collected at 24 h intervals and the growth was measured at 600 nm. Then the cultures were centrifuged at 6000 rpm for 10 min at 4ðC and the clear supernatants were used as the enzyme source to quantify the chitinase activity.
