German and Swiss researchers have engineered rice to produce beta carotene which is a precursor to vitamin a in the rice kernel,
The beta carotene turns processed white rice to gold colour hence the name is given as golden rice. Hence people who consume golden rice can obtain vitamin A which contains beta carotene.
