When these sex glands produce less or no sex hormones then it is known as Hypogonadism. primary hypogonadism and central hypogonadism are the two types of hypogonadism. Causes of primary hypogonadism include autoimmune disorders, Turner syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, kidney diseases, hemochromatosis, sex organs surgeries etc. Causes of central hypogonadism include Kallmann syndrome, pituitary disorders, obesity, brain surgery, nutritional deficiencies etc. Symptoms of hypogonadism are different in both male and female. Symptoms in females include: no menstruation, breast growth may be slow or absent, loss of hair on body, milky discharge from the breasts. Symptoms in males include: loss of hair on body, osteoporosis, infertility, fatigue, breast growth, muscle loss, hot flashes etc. Treatment of hypogonadism in women involves increasing the quantity of female sex hormones in the body and in males Testosterone replacement therapy is widely used.
