Peritoneal dialysis is a form of treatment for patients suffering from severe chronic kidney disease. It uses the individualâs peritoneum in abdomen as a membrane. Across which fluids and dissolved substances can be exchanged from the blood. A permanent tube is used to introduce fluid in the abdomen. It is then flushed out either every night while the patient sleeps or via regular exchanges throughout the day. Peritoneal dialysis is used as an alternative to hemodialysis. It is significantly less costly in most parts of the world, with the advantage of self-administering.
