Rice genomics

Rice is one of the most important food crops. Nearly half the world’s population consumes rice as their staple food. Rice is also the main source of calories among Asians (Khush, 2001). Given the importance of rice, research on this staple crop has remained at the forefront of studies on food crops. The grain is also an important strategic reserve, has substantial social significance and was the first food crop to be completely genome-sequenced.
