Regenerative Medicine for Diseases of the Respiratory System

Regenerative medicine is a promising and growing field for the treatment of both acute and chronic diseases affecting the respiratory tract. It focuses on the repair, replacement, or regeneration of cells, tissues, or organ dysfunction, which can be a result of many causes, including congenital defects, disease, trauma, and aging. This can be applied as a multidisciplinary approach to create and/or restore functional three-dimensional tissues or organs, which uses a combination of stem cells, scaffolds, and signaling molecules (tissue engineering), or direct application of cells to the site of injury or disorder (cell therapy).
