Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. GDM could lead to significantly increased incidence of perinatal complications of both mothers and fetuses and recent evidence has corroborated that GDM patients demonstrate higher risk of long-term type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic kidney diseases]. Nationwide study of China in 2006 by GDM Collaborative Group has shown that western China was one of the cities with highest incidence of GDM. However, there is currently a lack of systematic study of risk factors for GDM so far. Thus, in this study, we aim to assess the potential risk factors of GDM in the population of western China.
