Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists The (ACLPS)

The members of the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists believe that laboratory medicine is a field in which professional competence, dedication, and scholarship are required and it will continue to grow in importance and therefore the energetic and best abilities talents will be attracted towards this and it will develop up to its full potential. This academy was founded in the year of 1966 and at present having 70 affiliations and 150 academic and community training centers and providing training to pathology residents in clinical pathology. It is having the mission of being dedicated to the advancement of teaching and scholarship in laboratory medicine from its origin. The objectives are : To promote the highest standards of education in laboratory medicine in medical school and related curricula, To promote the highest standards of resident training and post-graduate education of physicians and scientists in clinical pathology at universities and medical schools, To promote the highest standards of service, education and research in academic laboratory medicine. The academy conducts single meeting per year which is designed primarily for young investigators and their budding careers. The Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award Program is intentionally designed to encourage young investigators so that they will be diverted towards considering a career in academic laboratory medicine. The Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award Program is eligible to residents, fellows, and students in a doctoral program in health sciences, participating in research with a member of ACLPS or sponsored by an ACLPS member. In addition to a meeting which is designed to young investigators, the academy offers the following awards: Cotlove Award,Gerald T. Evans Award,Ellis Benson Award. Cotlove Award is presented to a scientist for their superb contributions to the science of laboratory medicine.Gerald T. Evans Award is presented annually to a member for their superb leadership and/or service to the society. Ellis Benson Award is presented to a young faculty member in recognition of meritorious accomplishment in the field of laboratory medicine.
