The high level of concern that HIV/AIDS has generated in the Asia Pacific has not been matched by a comparable level of access to the sources of information that drive decision-making. Appropriate responses to the epidemic require accurate and up-to-date policy information. Considerable information exists in reports and unpublished case studies, yet much of this information is difficult to access. In order to address these inadequacies, a consortium of individuals and institutions came together in 2004 to develop an interactive web-based database of current HIV/AIDS policies and policy analyses for the Asia Pacific region. The database incorporates a regularly updated compendium of government documents and evaluations, NGO and IGO reports and documents and policy analyses related to HIV/AIDS policies. In April 2007 hivpolicy.org hosted international experts in the field of HIV/AIDS and security in the three day workshop HIV/AIDS and Fragile States in Australia's Proximate Region, see A Research Agenda for HIV/AIDS and State Fragility in the Asia Pacific. In addition to maintaining the database, the hivpolicy.org team is currently undertaking a project called the NGO HIV Policy Toolkit which aims to scale up civil society responses to HIV/AIDS in the Pacific.
