American Association of Neuroscience Nurses

American Association of Neuroscience Nurses was founded on 1968, with the aim of neuro patient care. More than 5,200 nurses and healthcare professionals across the globe is the healthcare member of this association. They are working in clinical, research, educational settings, and administrative settings and covering diverse areas of neuroscience patient care. Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system. In vertebrates, the nervous system can be split into two parts, the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Due to the plasticity of the human brain, the structure of its synapses and their resulting functions change throughout life. Thus the challenge of making sense of all this complexity is formidable. Neuroscience Nurse take care of patients with brain and nervous system disorders. They monitor neurological exams, administering medication, and consulting physicians on patient progress. Neuroscience Nurses work in diverse, challenging and rewarding environments, such as intensive rehabilitation units, hospitals, health care clinics, and brain injury units. The nursing professional who involved in helping neurological patients, head and spinal injuries, Parkinson's disease, meningitis, encephalitis, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis are the neuroscience nurses. They are mainly responsible for general neuroscience units, rehabilitation units, combination units (neuro/ortho neuromuscular/rehabilitation, neuropsychiatry, neurogerontology), medical-surgical units, pediatric units, emergency and trauma departments and surgery. This association supports neuroscience nurses and their patients by providing certification preparatory materials, continuing education and disseminating information, setting standards, and advocating on behalf of neuroscience patients, families, and nurses. AANN is a national organization of nurses working with with neurologically impaired patients. This association is affiliated from American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
