The Colombian Geotechnical Society was formed in 1975. It is affiliated with the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical ISSMGE, the International Society of Mechanical ISRM rocks and the International Association for the geology of AIGI engineer. It’s most important mission is to promote the study, knowledge and improved disciplines on Geotechnics, particularly in the design and implementation of the national interest. The Company has complied in the past a lot with these objectives through seminars, conferences and technical events, national and international, among which include the first South American Congress of Rock Mechanics (1982), mechanical VIII Congress soil Pan American and engineering foundations (1987), the Symposium I South America on landslides (1989) and the III Pan American Symposium on landslides (1991). Currently, the CIS continues with this policy, the strengthening of knowledge and the implementation of new geotechnical technologies.
