Korean Society for Clinical Microbiology

HISTORY:

It has been almost 30 years since the foundation of the Clinical Microbiology Study Group in 1987. Since the inaugural meeting and conference held in September 1998, the Korean Society of Clinical Microbiology is now just ahead of the 20th year of the establishment. I believe that the efforts and dedication put forth by all the current members and the previous board members to establish and foster our society over the past years have brought us where we are today. As the president of the society, I feel enormous respect and responsibility at the same time for all your hard work.

We have learned the rippling social effect and the importance of infectious diseases once again through our recent MERS outbreak. Clinical microbiology focuses on diagnosis and research on antibiotic resistance and infectious diseases, which have recently become global issues; we are very proud that the Korean Society of Clinical Microbiology has contributed to improvements in medicine and public healthcare through our contribution to the development of clinical microbiology.

Recently, our society has introduced the board of directors system. Moreover, we have been conducting various works in order to enhance the society's status and to contribute to medical advancement and the qualitative improvement of the members. Through our academic conferences, academic journal, research projects for development of clinical microbiology, South Korean and international academic exchanges and collaborative research, training programs for clinical microbiologists, and projects for improving the quality of clinical microbiology examinations, we are making remarkable accomplishments and achievements in the field of clinical microbiology. All these achievements are attributed to the efforts and dedication of the members. To improve our society's status further, our cooperation and continuous efforts toward our goals are required. I would like to ask for your interest and support for the development of our society once again, and wish you good health and every success in your work.
