The International Cardiac Doppler Society

The International Cardiac Doppler Society (ICDS) was founded in 1983. Today, its goals remain unchanged, and include: advancing the understanding of Doppler ultrasound techniques, facilitating the diffusion into clinical practice of Doppler applications in a wide range of cardiovascular disorders, stimulating promising new developments, and promoting fruitful contacts between scientists and clinicians from a variety of disciplines spanning the spectrum of cardiovascular ultrasound. Initially created at a small meeting in Florida, ICDS now includes enthusiastic members from around the world, including Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. All theattendees will benefit from the educational philosophy of the society. While attendees update and refine their practical knowledge, leading to better care for their patients, they will also enhance their understanding of the underlying physical and physiological principles that guide the applications of cardiovascular ultrasound. Significant emphasis will be placed on the most recent developments in echo-Doppler techniques (including quantitative color Doppler, transesophageal echocardiography, ultrasonic three-dimensional imaging and Doppler, stress echocardiography, contrast echocardiography, harmonic imaging, tissue Doppler, intravascular ultrasound, applications in interventional cardiology, and advances in signal processing and tissue characterization). The various approaches to management of specific lesions will be discussed from a practical perspective. And, as always, attendees will have ample opportunities to interact with an expert international faculty. fruitful discussions between attendees and faculty will develop in a warm, convivial and friendly atmosphere, which has been a consistent and popular aspect of ICDS scientific meetings.
