The number of disordered eating cases in adolescent athletes and the female participation in sports that require body exposure and emphasize agility, beauty and leanness of movements, such as dancing, gymnastics, long-distance running and also tennis, have increased in recent years. Disordered eating can lead to serious health complications such as menstrual irregularities and bone demineralization, featuring the Female Athlete Triad. Therefore, to identify vulnerable groups and the best way to track them, it became extremely necessary to describe and confront recent data on the presence of disordered eating and its complications, covering energy availability and Female Athlete Triad spectrum, in young female athletes and control subjects.
