This university was founded by Dr. Chen Tien-Chi in 1966 under the name - Chungtai Junior College. Over the years Chung Tai has grown, not only as a provider of technological expertise, but as a sphere of humane and life affirming academic study. The university system is made up of a school of graduate studies, four-year and two-year colleges, and a five-year senior college program. Additional departments were established including Medical Technology, Radiology Technology, Medical Management, Nursing and Midwifery (changed the name to Nursing in 1991). The “College System ” was gradually accepted by students; and thus a two-year college and a department of evening study were established. In addition, a dental laboratory technology department, two-year daytime class nursing department, and an evening study medical management department were formed. The school officially changed its name to the Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology on August 1, 2005.
