Maritsa Vegetable Crops Institute Plovdiv is a part of Bulgarian Agricultural Academy. It is mainly known for its novelties towards the field related to vegetable growing. It mainly works on breeding, growing, technology related to vegetable crops growing and improvement of vegetable crops. The institute owns four departments, namely Breeding Department, Technology for Growing Department, Vegetable Crops Improvement Center and Technology Transfer Office. The institute aided in developing the biological value and sensory characteristics of the vegetable crops, resistance against pests, resistance against diseases, improved tolerance towards droughts and tolerance towards temperature. The institute mainly concentrates in enhancing the quality of the domestic forms, varieties, breeds and wild species. It also extends its research on the soil fertility as a primary topic of interest for enhancing the vegetable crops. At an overall scale, Maritsa Vegetable Crops Institute Plovdiv located in Bulgaria contributes its research in enhancing the present varieties of the domestic and wild breeds of the vegetables and also in improving the soil fertility which is of primary importance bulleting towards good quality vegetable crops.
