Metabolic syndrome is defined by a group of risk factors that have been known to independently and synergistically increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, including, but not limited to coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart failure. According to the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP)/Adult Treatment Panel (ATP III).metabolic syndrome has gained recognition as a significant contributor to cardiovascular mortality. Isolated metabolic syndrome, without diabetes mellitus, plays an increasingly essential role in the pathogenesis of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). The risk factors for metabolic syndrome act synergistically to promote the development of Cardiovascular Disease.
