Progression in medical sciences with relation to critical surgeries helped in increasing trust of patients in the modern surgical procedures. This improvement occurred following intensive research efforts and practical application of the techniques. Surgeries associated with medical implanting involves ample amount of technological contributions from different disciplines including clinical sciences, surgical aspects, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, computer engineering, material science, anatomy, physiology and histology, toxicology, other engineering subjects depending on the type and area of the implants.

In clinical and medical sciences implants are of different types depending on the area of the human body it is used, such as, dental implant, cardiac implant, knee implant, brain implant, spine implant, plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery based implants, information on medication used for implants, patient care, pre and post-operative measures, long term and short term effects of implants etc.

Brain Implants

Brain Implant is any substance or structure that is placed surgically intracranially. Neural implants, also called brain implants, are medical devices designed to be placed under the skull, on the surface of the brain. Often as small as an aspirin, implants use thin metal electrodes to “listen” to brain activity and in some cases to stimulate activity in the brain.

Ear Implants

A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing.

Implants

An implant is a medical device which is made to replace a missing biological structure, to support a damaged biological structure, or enhance an existing biological structure.

Medical Implants

Medical implants are devices or tissues that are placed inside or on the surface of the body. Many implants are prosthetics, which are to replace missing body parts.

Cardiac implants

An Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator is a battery-powered device placed under the skin that keeps track of your heart rate. ICDs are useful in preventing sudden death in patients with known, sustained ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation.
