SETAC is a not-for-profit organization and global professional organization comprised of some 6,000 individual members and institutions from government, academia and business. SETAC was established in 1979, from then the Society has provided a forum where managers , scientists, and other professionals exchange information and concepts on the study, analysis and solution of environmental problems, the regulation and management of natural resources, R&D, and environmental education. The founding principles of SETAC's are multidisciplinary methods to solve environmental problems, three-way balance among academia, and government, business, Science-based objectivity. SETAC Latin America is a Geographic Unit of the SETAC, recognized to promote and take on activities of SETAC in Latin America, and to support other Geographic Units in Asia/Pacific, Europe, Africa, and North America. SLA (SETAC Latin Americais) dedicated to the use of multidisciplinary methods to examine the effects of chemicals, stressors, and technology on the environment. SETAC Latin Americais also provides an open platform for scientists and institutions engaged in the study of environmental harms, management and using of natural resources, education, research and development, and manufacturing. An exclusive strength of SETAC is its assurance to balance the interests of business, academia, and government. The goals of SETAC Latin America are: to support the progress of principles and practices for protection, enhancement and managing of sustainable environmental quality and ecosystem reliability. To inspire interactions among environmental scientists and allocate info on environmental toxicology and chemistry. To provide a standard for communication among professionals in government, commercial, academic world, and other segments of the environmental science and for the protection and welfare of the common public. Each year SETAC North America organizes yearly meeting, generally attended by more than 2,300 scientists, webinars and one or more focused topic meetings or workshops. The awards program of SETAC North America is designed to inspire and recognize major achievements in chemistry and environmental toxicology.
