Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies

Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies is a social as well as economic institute set up in 1990 for the study in Hong Kong, China and Asia-Pacific region. The main objective of this association is to promote the high quality researches, developments in Hong Kong, China, Asia –Pacific region inorder to increase the importance of these areas and to make Hong Kong as a place for the advances and changes taking place in China and Asia Pacific region. The programme has undertaken substantial research on world cities, globalization, Chinese urbanization and urban and regional development in China covering Pearl River Delta (PRD), Pan-PRD, Guangdong, Shanghai, Fujian and western region with numerous publications.
Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies is associated with other institutes like Centre for Chinese Family Studies with Dr. TONG Yuying as director and Dr. WU Qiaobing as associate director. The main aim of this center is to study the families of Chinese descent. The goal of this center is to establish a platform for promoting empirical investigations and intellectual exchanges among scholars concerned about the wellbeing of families of Chinese descent, and also for disseminating the scientific knowledge to the general public. Center of Housing Innovations is another institute associated with Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies established in1998 with Prof. TSOU Jinyeu as director. The main aim of this center is to promote and improve the health and density of the urban environment.
Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies is also working on various research projects namely Planning post-earthquake Wenchuan: towards a resilience-based approach? and Contentious Space and Politics of Scale: Planning for Inter-City Railways in Chinas Mega-City Regions which were done under the guidance of Prof. Jiang XU. These research projects have received the funding from Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies has established seven strategic research programs in which the institute not only provides services to the researchers but also takes public opinions for the academic and social values. It also welcomes for sponsorships and collaborations from interested people and organizations.
