Kyungil University has struggled to achieve hands-on-focused educational progress, producing approximately 60,000 graduates who have satisfied various requirements in actual business situations. Kyungil University has prepared to make another newly-paradigmatic 50 years, during which KIU will create more values than education and educate future task forces who are qualified for the fast and ever-changing new era, the 21st century. Collaborating with businesses, our university, including professors focusing on student-centered education will, try to create a new educational paradigm to produce more values than âeducationâ, more satisfaction than âstudentsâ, and better models than âuniversity.â Through various collaborative and complex inter-disciplinary majors, we have done our best to produce students who can manage prospective problems well with genuine ideas and problem-solving techniques in business contexts. Furthermore, our future collaboration between businesses and KIU will be recreated into a new revolutionary economic model, which goes beyond existing stereo-typed collaboration models. Throughout this process, KIU will reach an âInnovation Campus,â which manages the university system centering around students the most. To achieve this goal, KIU has set the core 6 values which are called â2013 Kollaboâ: 3PC-Provision, Program(educational programs), Project(industrial collaboration projects), Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. Through â2013 Kollaboâ We expect a new synergy effect that has not been experienced throughout previous university education. The mission of KIU, grounded on our nations founding principle, humanitarianism, is to produce talented individuals who are to contribute to the prosperity of our own nation and the whole of humanity. In accomplishing the mission, KIU advocates truth, creativity, and enthusiasm : Truth here indicates truthful goals, opinions, and mind; creativity the spirit to explore new challenges; and enthusiasm the mind to achieve goals enthusiastically. These ideas are incorporated and represented specifically in the educational goals of KIU. The fundamental goal in education is to create capable and ethical individuals. These individuals refer not to those who have intellectual capabilities, but holistic individuals who have knowledge, virtue, and physical strength in a balanced way. Our society urgently calls for intellectuals who think holistically to face challenges caused by alienation and dehumanization and to thereby restore humanity. These intellectuals are not simply men and women of knowledge, but those who ethically put knowledge, truth, freedom, and justice into practice. Understanding the above, KIU set the goal to produce holistic intellectuals. Being professional and creative is the key to being successful in the present complex society. Professionals can complete assigned tasks with their critical knowledge, thereby winning recognition from society and accomplishing their dreams. It is safe to say that to help students advance knowledge and apply it appropriately is the essence of what universities should do. Also, universities should possess creativity to aid students in exploring their own field. What creativity means in universities is to generate new knowledge and cutting-edge technology. Professionals should acquire such knowledge and be capable of generating innovative technology, while enhancing practical capabilities instead of only pursuing abstract knowledge. Therefore, KIU puts its educational emphasis on the creation of creative professionals since the complex future society expects universities to produce them. Beyond their exploration of knowledge, universities need to expand their capacity by serving the society where they belong, while keeping an eye on the needs of the society. As the role of universities in a society grows, universities should face societal changes more actively, solidifying their own role accordingly. That is, universities are to reinforce their service in the society. The service or volunteering of universities originates from creating intellectuals who can contribute productively to the nation and humankind. Then, returning their resources to the society and keeping the relation close and cooperative, they should increase efficiency in serving the society. On top of that, the prerequisites of volunteering are compassion and enthusiasm, which can create the willingness of participants. The above rationale is the reason that KIU promotes "active volunteers" as one of its important educational goals.
