BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences

Established in the year 2005, The BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences (BC CAHS) is one of the leading global societies known for its excellence in research services. Many internationally reputed scholars and experts found a place in this institution working with dedication and academic commitment. The BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences (BC CAHS) is a not-for-profit society located in Campbell River, British Columbia and is the only aquatic research facility of its kind in the province. Research scientists and technical staff have extensive experience in field and laboratory-based research covering a wide variety of interests which include fish health & welfare, wild/farmed animal interactions, epidemiology, stress physiology, environmental monitoring. BC CAHS works with organizations and communities, providing science applications, training, laboratory services, and project management. BC CAHS has worked closely with the salmon farming industry of BC, the predominant species cultured in the Canadian aquaculture sector, and has provided a range of services including research and development, laboratory and professional skills, and training programs. The BC Center for Aquatic Health Sciences (BC CAHS) and Marine Harvest Canada have embarked upon a 3-year, joint research project to increase the understanding of Kudoa thyrsites. In addition, the BC CAHS is developing partnerships with fledgling industries working to develop alternative species for aquaculture such as sablefish, shrimp and other shellfish, in addition to developing alternative rearing methods such as closed containment and integrated multi-trophic aquaculture. BC CAHS also provides services to both provincial (BCMAL, BCMOE) and federal (DFO, CFIA) government agencies and academic institutions (North Island College (NIC), University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver Island University (VIU) and Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC)). BC CAHS has partnered on research projects with many of these institutions. The BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences has International collaborations such as: Aboriginal scientist exchange, European Union, Integrated Pest Management, Intesal de SalmonChile, NIWA - National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research, NZ Nofima (Norway) etc.
