The Center for Personalized Medicine (CPM) is a new facility at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) that uses state-of-the-art “next-generation” sequencing tools to decipher people’s individual genetic codes, supporting the development of targeted medical therapies custom-tailored to a person’s unique genetic characteristics. With the establishment of the CPM — the region’s first resource for next-generation gene sequencing to meet federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards — RPCI now has the infrastructure to make these cutting-edge technologies and robust analysis available to clinicians and researchers from other centers quickly and cost-effectively. The CPM seeks to help doctors deliver the best possible care when patients need it most by developing comprehensive laboratory testing services that uniquely decipher individual patients’ genetic code and informs clinicians and their patients of the options. To do this, the CPM brings together a team of clinical, research, information technology, informatics and cancer care delivery experts to create high quality, evidence-based molecular tests using advanced technologies like next generation sequencing.
