Fish Medicine

As per available reports about 100 journals, 162 Conferences, 30 workshops are presently dedicated exclusively to fish medicine and about 366282 articles are being published on the current trends in fish medicine. In terms of research annually, USA, India, Japan, Brazil and Canada are some of the leading countries where maximum studies related to fish medicine are being carried out. As reported in “Probiotics in Aquaculture” article, fish medicine is the study and treatment of the diseases of fish. Although some practitioners work primarily with aquarium fish, this field also has important applications to fisheries management. In 2010, global production of farmed food fish was 59.9 million tonnes. Over the years, aquaculture sector has undergone a sea change in order to meet the increasing demand. The production is maximized through intensification with addition of commercial diets, growth promoters, antibiotics, and several other additives; all these practices create stressful conditions that cause problems related to diseases and deterioration of environmental conditions often occur and result in serious economic losses. Probiotics open a new era in health management strategy for fish/shellfish gaining increasing scientific and commercial interest. Journal of Aquaculture Research & Development is an academic journal – hosted by OMICS International – a pioneer in open access publishing–and is listed among the top 10 journals in fish medicine. Each year research scientists have noticed a rise in the number of congresses being held in this field. Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms such as fish, prawns, molluscs, and aquatic plants related directly or indirectly to human consumption. The journal provides an Open Access platform devoted to cultivate freshwater and saltwater populations under controlled conditions, and can be contrasted with commercial fishing. Journal of Aquaculture Research & Development provides a unique platform to researchers and scientist to explore the advanced and latest research developments in the field of fish medicine, thus bridging the gap between researchers and young scientists.
