American University in the Emirates

The American University in the Emirates (AUE), is a private university located in the Dubai International Academic City in the United Arab Emirates. The university was founded in 2006, because of the growing demand for higher education in the UAE and the region. AUE is an approved university by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and is licensed by the Commission for Academic Accreditation to offer various undergraduate as well as graduate programs where students can earn bachelors and masters degrees and is in process of offering PhDs. The American University in the Emirates has nearly 3000 students. One third of our student body are international students coming from many countries and continents. There are six colleges offering bachelors and masters degrees. Besides the core colleges, AUE offers a number of language courses and other professional training programs through its five institutes and centers to address the needs of the country and the region. The AUE learning model is based upon the liberal education framework that is typical of the American system of education. Liberal education is characterized by a General Education curriculum, provided to all lower division students during the first two years. This curriculum offers a broad exposure to the concepts, tools and data of multiple disciplines and ways of knowing, across natural and social sciences as well as humanities and the arts, while encouraging critical thinking. By the time of academic progression to the upper division, students also have the opportunity for in-depth study within at least one disciplinary field, or area of concentration. Liberal education is characterized by challenging encounters with an expansive range of issues that are important to humanity. Accordingly, such an education prepares graduates for socially-valued work, as well as for civic leadership in their societies.
