Aoraki Polytechnic is a New Zealand government owned and registered tertiary education institution with a long history of delivering tertiary education on the East coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Aoraki Polytechnics main campus was based in central Timaru, South Canterbury, South Island. It also had campuses offering a variety of programmes in Ashburton, Oamaru, Christchurch and Dunedin. In 2015 Aoraki Polytechnic had 1,021 Equivalent Full Time students (EFTS) and approximately 93 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Academic Staff and 44 FTE Support staff. In March 2016, Aoraki Polytechnic merged with the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology to form Ara Institute of Canterbury. The programmes offered by Aoraki Polytechnic are professionally orientated and have been produced in a joint effort with industry. The purpose of the institute is to provide employment and a firm foundation for future study. Aoraki Polytechnic likewise plans to convey international students with a study and lifestyle experience which supports the long term success of our students in a supportive, real New Zealand environment. Aoraki Polytechnic provides different programmes such as Beauty and Hairdressing, Arts and Design, Agriculture, Business and Tourism, Health and Education, Information Technology, Trades and Media which are recognised as pathways to higher study, work and residence. English language classes, conversation groups, experienced tutors, small classes, and a safe and secure learning environment ensure that you are supported to succeed in your programme of study. A dedicated team in the International Department provide support specifically for international students to settle in to life and study in New Zealand including accommodation support, insurance processing, orientation for new students, community connections and on-going support throughout your study.
