Aoraki Polytechnic is a New Zealand government owned and registered tertiary education institution with a long history of delivering tertiary education on the East coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Aoraki Polytechnics main campus was based in central Timaru, South Canterbury, South Island. It also had campuses offering a variety of programmes in Ashburton, Oamaru, Christchurch and Dunedin. In 2015 Aoraki Polytechnic had 1,021 Equivalent Full Time students (EFTS) and approximately 93 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Academic Staff and 44 FTE Support staff. In March 2016, Aoraki Polytechnic merged with the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology to form Ara Institute of Canterbury. The programmes offered by Aoraki Polytechnic are professionally orientated and have been produced in a joint effort with industry. The purpose of the institute is to provide employment and a firm foundation for future study. Aoraki Polytechnic likewise plans to convey international students with a study and lifestyle experience which supports the long term success of our students in a supportive, real New Zealand environment.
