The Arab Open University (AOU) is a non-profit project. It was established by HRH Prince Talal Bin Abdul-Aziz who is a Chairman of the Arab Open University Board of Trustees. In September 2000, AOU was officially declared in the meeting of Arab ministers of higher education where five Arab countries offered to host the headquarters of AOU. Headquarter of the AOU is in the state of Kuwait. The vision of the university is built to the science and knowledge society. AOU has more than 28,460 students in eight countries. More than 20,690 students are graduated from AOU in which more than 50% is female.
Arab Open University has eight Campuses in Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Oman and Sudan. The institute offers the best knowledge and expertise in the major areas of Business Studies, Information Technology and Computing, English language & Literature, in Media (Electronic Media, Radio and Television, Public Relations) and Special Education in two field: Learning Disabilities, Mental Retardation.
The institute Having different departments and services: the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Department, Financial Affairs Department, Information & Cultural Department and in Engineering Department. The strength of the institute is the Research Repository, Conferences and Symposia, Journal and E-book facilities. AOU Cooperation Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding and Membership which different countries of the world (Open University, UK , Athabasca, Canada, De Montfort University, UK).
