Center for Optics Photonics and Lasers

The Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL) is a strategic cluster of optics/photonics researchers from Université Laval, École Polytechnique de Montréal, McGill, INRS, École de technologie supérieure, Université de Sherbrooke and Université du Québec à Montréal who share the following objectives: - to train graduate students and post-docs who will form the next generation of optics/photonics scientists - to perform fundamental and applied research - to contribute to socio-economic development by supporting industry. Its research excellence, state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive scientific program have positioned the COPL among the best centers in the world for optics and photonics training and research. The Center was founded in 1989 at Université Laval and has since expanded beyond the institution in order to encompass leading-edge expertise available at other universities therefore creating a critical mass of researchers capable of taking on the complex and challenging task of furthering the development of photonics knowledge and applications. The COPL is the Quebec cluster of recognized experts in optics and photonics. Its research excellence, state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive scientific program position the COPL among the best centers in the world for optics and photonics training and research. The COPLs activities are supported by the Fonds de recherche sur la nature et les technologies du Québec.
