Central European University

Central European University was established in 1991. Central European University was founded by philanthropist George Soros, who has provided an endowment of US$880 million, making the university one of the wealthiest in Europe. It is considered as one of the most prestigious universities in Central Europe for social sciences and humanities. CEU has two schools, including the School of Public Policy and CEU Business School, 13 academic departments, and 17 research centres. CEU is committed to promoting the values of open society and self-reflective critical thinking. It aims at excellence in the mastery of established knowledge, courage to pursue the creation of new knowledge in the humanities, the social sciences, law and management, and engagement in promoting applications for each, in particular through their policy implications. CEU is a new model for international education, a center for study of contemporary economic, social and political challenges, and a source of support for building open and democratic societies that respect human rights and human dignity. CEU - Africa Research Group is an interdisciplinary open platform dedicated to research on the African continent, and its relationship with the rest of the world. It is a forum that encourages debate and discussion through seminars, conferences and panel discussions on critical developmental issues such as good governance, democracy, arts and culture, conflict, poverty, natural resource-management, human rights, regionalism and integration and international relations.
