Centre for Expertise in the Treatment and Management of Water

The Centre of Expertise wants to improve the South-African water supply and sanitation sector by introducing Dutch knowledge and technology. It is hosted in Durban by eThekwini Water & Sanitation (EWS) and will introduce innovations and best practices in the South-African water and sanitation sector. It is funded by the Dutch government through the Transition Facility.
The Dutch are internationally renowned for their knowledge and expertise in the areas of, amongst others, water technology, water treatment and the installation and management of water and sanitation infrastructure. The Centre of Expertise was officially launched on May 8th in Cape Town. The Centre of Expertise aims to match the South African water knowledge and technology needs with the Dutch water knowledge and innovations.
Targets for the Centre of Expertise are to improve the performance of Southern African peer utilities and assist them in implementing these innovations, best practices and technologies. A year-by-year list of selected showcase projects and pilots will be used to maintain focus and allow for varying partnerships and supports. The Centre of Expertise activities are based on the 5 pillars. They are: Needs of Southern African Water & Sanitation sector, Active Matchmaking by centre of expertise on innovative technology, showcasing technology following existing supply chain management procedures, dissemination of results through certified training, offered by southern african training institutes, innovative technology; accessible & understandable.
Jeroen Bosboom is responsible for the Marketing & Business Development activities within the Centre of Expertise as a dedicated external resource from Your Man on Site. Jeroen is of Dutch nationality and permanently based in Johannesburg and assists Leo on the day-to-day activities of the Centre of Expertise. His major task is to facilitate and assist the (Dutch) public and private innovators who wish to develop business opportunities in South Africa via pilots at the Centre of Expertise. Jeroen is 46 years old and holds a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Post Masters in Environmental Engineering on water pollution.
