The Centre for Sustainable Design (CfSD) was established in 1995 in Farnham, Surrey, UK at what is now the University for the Creative Arts (UCA). The Centre has led and participated in a range of high quality research projects and has organised more than a hundred conferences, workshops and training courses focused on sustainable innovation and product sustainability. CfSD is recognised worldwide for its knowledge and expertise, having worked closely with business, policy making and research communities for two decades.
The Centre for Sustainable Design (CfSD) has built world class knowledge and expertise of sustainable innovation and product sustainability. The Centre researches, develops and disseminates understanding of present and future sustainability impacts and solutions related to innovation, products, technologies, services and systems through projects, training, events, networks and information. CfSD works with partners in Europe, North America and Asia to deliver high quality results. The Centre is an internationally recognised centre of excellence.
The Centre for Sustainable Design (CfSD) offers consultancy services based on its core competence and has undertaken projects for both private and public sector clients. Considerable expertise has been built in eco-design in the electronics sector, especially in South-East Asia. CfSD has completed research in areas related to sustainable consumption and production (SCP), ‘producer responsibility’, product policy, eco-innovation, eco-design, design for remanufacturing, eco(packaging) design, marketing, procurement, supply chain management, product-servicesystems (PSS) and new business models. CfSD has also led overseas missions to Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to explore the ‘state of the art’ in sustainable innovation and product sustainability.
The Centre for Sustainable Design (CfSD) has been involved in a range of EC and UK funded research projects. The website is recognised as a key global resource on sustainable innovation and product sustainability. CfSD has developed considerable experience in global manufacturing industries eg. electronics, information and communication technologies (ICT) and sustainable building products working with partners in Europe, North America and Asia. The Centre for Sustainable Design has designed training programmes for private and public sector organisations based on over two decades of research and practical experience. The Centre’s training programmes have been delivered in Europe, North America and Asia.
CfSD is a partner in the Circular Ocean project running between 2015-2018. Circular Ocean is funded by Northern Periphery & Arctic Programme (European Regional Development Fund). It is the lead partner of Sustainable Supply Chains through Innovation (SUSCIN) that is ran between 2009-2012. SUSCIN was funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) & South East England Development Agency (SEEDA)/Department of Communities & Local Government (DCLG).
