The Center for Research in Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology (CINN) is a mixed research center based in El Entrego, created in 2007 by a joint institutional initiative between the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) , the Government of the Principality of Asturias and the University of Oviedo . The research of the CINN focuses on a line called " Controlled Design of Multiscale Multifunctional Materials " aimed at the development, characterization and understanding of the behavior of new multifunctional materials at nano, micro and macro scales, with the aim of overcoming the limitations that present the current materials and processes. The research of the CINN covers from the development of "ab initio" techniques for the simulation of magnetic, electronic and transport properties in nanoscale objects through the study of mesoscopic physics in hybrid systems and the manufacture of dense nanostructured materials. The CINN follows a research model with a strong focus on the market that allows it to maintain close collaboration with companies in sectors such as biotechnology, industrial, textile or defense
