Changshu Institute of Technology (CIT), located at Changshu – a famous historic and cultural city and an international garden city, has grown out of Suzhou Normal College established in 1958 and Changshu Vocational University established in 1984. In 1989, these two colleges merged into Changshu College, and then combined with Population School in Jiangsu and escalated to its present status – a multidisciplinary four-year college with science and engineering as main focuses with the approval of Ministry of Education on May 12, 2004. CIT comprises 12 schools which are altogether offering 47 full- time undergraduate courses. It has an enrollment of over 18020 full-time undergraduates and over 5352 students in the college for adult and further education. CIT now boasts bases of feature specialty construction of higher education on the national level, national engineering practice center, and provincial engineering center, provincial key laboratory, provincial higher education innovation laboratory personnel training base, provincial engineering practice education center, provincial excellent discipline team, and provincial excellent treaching team. In addition, CIT has provincial experimental teaching demonstration Center and program construction places, features professional and construction point with provincial brand, provincial key construction disciplines, comprehensive reform pilot professionals of undergraduate school of Ministry of Education, key provincial professionals(in 6 categories), national excellence program pilot professionals, provincial excellence program pilot professionals, and provincial quality curriculum constructions.
