Donghua University is a public research university in Shanghai, China. Established in 1951. Among its various departments it is especially well known for engineering, business, and textile design, among which its fashion design, textile engineering, international trade, material science, and information technology departments have been consistently ranked highly in China for decades. Founded in June 1951, Donghua University was originally named East-China Textile Institute of Science and Technology In September 1985, the university changed its name to China Textile University and changed it once again to Donghua University in August 1999. It has been a state-key university since 1960 and was one of the first educational institutions in China authorized to confer all three levels of degree: bachelors, masters, and doctorate. ããThe university has 15 colleges and schools. All the 45 disciplines fall into seven categories as engineering, economics, management, literature & fine art, law, science and pedagogy. Donghua University adheres to its characteristic of "strictness, diligence, concreteness and innovation" and implements the idea that "all-round development of students is the center of everything". The leading disciplines of Donghua University are Textile, Fashion, Materials and Trade, etc. As early as 1954, Donghua University commenced to accept international students who were among the first group of overseas students enrolled by Chinese universities. It has been appointed by Shanghai Municipal Government to accept international students with Shanghai Government Scholarship. In 2002, International Cultural Exchange School was established, taking full responsibilities of the recruitment, cultivation and management of the international students. In 2011, 4003 international students from 135 countries studied at Donghua University.
