The ESITC (École supérieure dingénieurs des travaux de la construction de Caen) is an private Engineering School. It was founded in 1992. Its Director is Marcel Poinsignon. It is a member of Conférence des Grandes Ecoles. Located in Caen, it trains in five years engineers specializing in the construction industry. Since 2016, ESITC Caen is one of the 47 French private higher education institutions recognized to date by the State (EESPIG Label). The research activity in the field of building materials deals with environmental and territorial issues developed with French university laboratories (in particular of the Caen Normandie University), European and construction companies. Since its creation, the school has had a full employment situation for its graduates. Several techniques are covered in this institute. Some of them are: 1. Environmental geotechnics, concerns the treatment and recovery of unusable materials such as dredged sediments and soils, 2. Materials and eco-construction, concerns the development of materials and eco-materials, generally based on cement matrices, 3. Energy and Environment, taking into account the energy and environmental performance of materials. This theme could be developed with the availability in 2016 of the new rooms (among others a Halle aux Matériaux for large format tests and climatic enclosures), 4. Marine Infrastructures, adaptation of building materials to the marine environment. As a result of the extension works, the restructured historic laboratory will be equipped with a first-rate hydraulic equipment. The new premises of more than 1,500m2, inaugurated on September 8, 2016, allow the three ESITC schools in Cachan, Caen and Metz to combine their research activities and pool their human and technical resources on the same site.
