Flamac was founded in 2005 by three leading industrial companies with important research and development activities in Flanders together with Agoria Vlaanderen. Financial support was provided by the three companies and by the Flemish government. It has become top research centre in high-throughput methodologies for the materials and chemical industry that provides unique state-of-the-art workflows and expertise on high throughput formulation and application, high throughput materials characterisation and computational material design. It works towards goal of developing top competences in THE, give technological advice and contract research towards the materials and chemical industry. In this way they aim to innovative research for new materials, their properties and applications can be accelerated and broadened for our customers.
In the meantime Flamac has become a top research centre in high-throughput methodologies. Our mission is to keep developing top competences in HTE, give technological advice and perform collective as well as contract research towards the materials and chemical industry. In this way, innovative research for new materials, their properties and applications can be accelerated and broadened for our customers. Through its platforms and time saving methodologies, Flamac furthermore speeds up research in the field of small-scale alloying, coating development for 3rd parties, novel technologies and methods to apply new compounds.
In 2009, Flamac has been integrated in the Strategic Initiative Materials in Flanders (SIM), showing the importance of high-throughput technologies in materials research and since 2013 Flamac is also ISO 9001:2008 certified. Services of Flamac include contract research, development of top-competences, consultancy and strategic research. In order to enable experimental workflows in the areas of viscous formulations, high speed curable coatings, physical and chemical vapour deposition (PVD/CVD), flamac has installed specific software and use special equipment. Another focus point for Flamac is the use and development of predictive modelling techniques to predict structural and functional properties of materials, based on fundamental, physical and chemical principles.
To fulfil its mission of providing its partners with the most state-of-the-art capabilities to perform high-throughput research Flamac has different platforms at its disposal. Platforms include High-throughput synthesis, High-throughput formulation, High-throughput application, High-throughput thin film deposition, High-throughput screening. Within the context of AceForm4.0, a project funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 program, and together with six other European partners, Flamac have been given the task to help define the European research agenda for the formulated products industries. A key part of this work relies on the identification of common technological challenges faced by the European formulation industries and all associated players along the whole value chain.
