The institute is for researching comprehensive solutions to the great social challenges in the fields of energy and the environment as well as information and the brain. Main goal is to create the foundations for future key technologies.
The institute cooperates nationally and internationally with numerous partners from science and industry - for the common benefit. Among the strongest scientific and strategic partners are the RWTH Aachen University of Technology , the French Commissariat à lÉnergie Atomique et aux Égies Alternatives (CEA) , the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the USA, the Moscow Institute Of Physics and Technology (MIPT) in Russia and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in China. The cooperation includes joint institutes of the Research Centre and RWTH, which are located within the JARA sections.
Key technologies in the fields of energy and the environment, as well as information and brain research - this task is characterized by the profile of the Jülich Research Center. With around 5,700 employees, Jülich, a member of the Helmholtz Association, is one of the largest research centers in Europe.
At the Research Center international conferences and seminars take place every year as well as public events for the general public. The institute is also represented outside Jülich.
